Area of care 08
थायरॉइड और हार्मोन ग्रंथि का कैंसर
01Overview
- Thyroid cancer
- Other endocrine (hormone gland) tumours
Endocrine glands make hormones that control body functions. The thyroid, in the neck, is one of them. Lumps in the thyroid are common and most are not cancer. But some need more tests and surgery.
Other hormone glands can also develop tumours. The tests and plan depend on the gland involved and on blood tests of hormone levels.

03Where surgery fits
Thyroid & endocrine cancer in Bikaner:
surgery in plain words.
- 01
Tests first
Tests help to understand the lump. These are an ultrasound, a needle test of the lump (FNAC), and blood tests for thyroid and other hormones.
- 02
Part or all of the thyroid
Depending on the findings, half or all of the thyroid gland is removed. If all is removed, thyroid hormone is usually needed afterwards.
- 03
Neck lymph nodes
Lymph nodes are small glands that filter body fluid. Nearby nodes may be removed where needed.
- 04
Protecting voice and calcium
The surgeon takes care of the nerves that control the voice. The surgeon also protects the parathyroid glands, four tiny glands that control calcium. Both are checked after surgery.
- 05
Other endocrine tumours
Surgery for other hormone glands is planned after hormone tests and scans, with advice from a hormone specialist.
04How the plan is made

- 03
The case is discussed with other specialists where needed. These may be doctors for scans, tissue tests, cancer medicines and radiotherapy. This is called a multidisciplinary discussion.
