पेरिटोनियल सतह के कैंसर (CRS और HIPEC)

01Overview

  • Peritoneal surface cancers
  • Cytoreductive surgery (CRS)
  • HIPEC, where indicated

The peritoneum is the thin lining inside the belly. It covers the belly wall and the organs. Some cancers of the bowel, ovary, stomach and appendix can spread to this lining. Some start in it.

For selected patients, a treatment may be considered that has two parts. The first is cytoreductive surgery (CRS), an operation to remove all the visible disease. The second is HIPEC, which is heated chemotherapy (cancer medicine) washed inside the belly during the operation. It is not suitable for everyone. It is advised only after careful selection.

03Where surgery fits

Peritoneal surface cancers (CRS & HIPEC) in Bikaner:
surgery in plain words.

  1. 01

    Careful selection

Scans help to decide if this surgery is right. Sometimes a look inside the belly with a camera (laparoscopy) is done too.

  2. 02

    Cytoreductive surgery (CRS)

In CRS, the surgeon removes all visible disease from the belly lining. Any affected organs, or parts of organs, are removed too. It is long, major surgery.

  3. 03

    HIPEC, where indicated

HIPEC is heated chemotherapy given inside the belly during the operation. It aims to reach any cells that are too small to see.

  4. 04

    Recovery

Recovery can take time. Support for food and rehabilitation is part of the plan.

  5. 05

When it is not the right choice

If it is not suitable, other treatments are discussed. Honest talk about the options is part of the visit.
